Corporate magazine Acquisition International recently spoke to the AI Wills, Trusts & Estate Planning Lawyer of the Year for the East Midlands, Sandy Kaur to find out more about how Taylor Rose delivers smart, modern law.
Taylor Rose proudly holds a position as a Top 75 UK Law Firm, predominantly for its driven approach to delivering smart, modern law. A Consultant Solicitor of Taylor Rose, who specialises in delivering sound and practical advice in Wills, Trusts, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Probate work, Sandy Kaur takes an active interest in the issues faced by families upon the death of a loved one and continually explores the developments and challenges in the Private Client field. She is also one of the leading forces at Taylor Rose driving diversity and progress at the firm.
Sandy says, “I am proud to be a leader and entrepreneur in my field, now also leading a team of my own within Taylor Rose and aiming to empower women and similarly help them with their professional development journey. I believe that Taylor Rose promotes equality and diversity within the legal framework and have provided women with the opportunity of career progression by providing them with more flexibility and control over the way they work whilst bringing up a family of their own.”
Although women make up 48% of all lawyers in England and Wales and 75% of other members of the workforce in the legal sector according to the Solicitors Regulation Authority, it is still challenging for women to progress to partner level in a traditional law firm. Many of these firms do not promote flexible working and ever increasing and demanding targets make the work-life balance near impossible to achieve.
Taylor Rose adopts a consultancy solicitor model that enables flexible working, giving women the choice of how they want to progress and the amount of work they take on. The firm also invests in getting women into leadership roles, having many of their 32 national offices headed by women and the majority of their Management Development Programme populated by females.
“My advice to all women is to be headstrong, courageous and don’t be afraid to ask for opportunities and more flexibility over the way you work. Work towards a career development plan that suits your circumstances and lifestyle,” says Sandy, who is looking for private client solicitors with at least three years PQE to join her team on a sub-consultancy basis.
Before joining Taylor Rose in 2017, Sandy was a Partner and Head of Department in a high street law practice, during which time she developed skills in leadership, management and practice development. She now implements these skills alongside her Trusts and Estate Administration qualifications with the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and wealth of experience into delivering straightforward and sound advice to families and ensures that their wishes are put into place through carefully drafted Wills, whether simple or complex. Meanwhile, she continues to devote time and efforts to encouraging and leading other women to take on senior roles within Taylor Rose, levelling the playing field for female lawyers everywhere.
